What does this car really cost you per month?

Petrol feels expensive because you pay it often. Depreciation is usually the bigger line, quietly spread across the years. Put every running cost next to it and see the monthly number before you buy.

How the monthly cost is built

The depreciation line uses the same method as the depreciation calculator: purchase price minus deregistration value, spread over the years you keep the car. That makes the biggest cost visible beside the smaller bills.

Annual bills such as road tax, insurance and maintenance are divided by 12. Monthly bills such as fuel, parking and ERP stay monthly. Every line is rounded to whole dollars first, then the total is the sum of those displayed lines.
